Saint Augustine, The Exultant:

This is the Night,
Which throughout the world
Frees all who believe in Christ
From the vices of their time-shackled existence,
From the lightless dungeon of sin,
And restores them to grace: unites them to holiness…

Saint Ambrose, 4th poem:

O mystery great and glorious,
That mortal flesh should conquer death,
And all our human pains and wounds
The Lord should heal by bearing them…

For this prayer I melded a few ancient prayers and hymns together for an Easter song.

The Night that Darkness Fled is the seventh in a series of brand new meditative worship songs called Morning Prayer.

This is the night that is truly blessed
when Heaven and earth are wed
And all are made right
by the pillar of fire
and darkness is destroyed

O mystery great and glorious,
That mortal flesh should conquer death,
And all our human wounds and cuts
A man should heal by bearing them.

Christ has conquered, Glory fills us
Darkness vanishes forever
The risen Savior shines upon us
Darkness fled in fear of light

This is the night that was clear as day.
And is all our joy and light
Oh holy night that dispels the dark
and washes guilt away
and casts out all our hate
our innocence repaired
the mourners given joy
and peace on earth

Behold how man, though crushed by death,
Arises now to live with Christ,
While death, repelled and robbed of might,
By it’s own sting of malice dies .

Christ has conquered, Glory fills us
Darkness vanishes forever
The risen savior shines upon us
Darkness fled in fear of light

And this is the judgement:
darkness could not stand
When light won on that night.
